Oso Blu Knows Bear Lake

Oso Blu is a unique property in Bear Lake, owned by John and Melissa Spuhler and their son, Leo. The Spuhlers are full-time residents of Garden City. John served two terms as mayor, and Melissa led the local arts council for nearly a decade. Their strong community ties reflect their deep love for the area.

In addition to their civic engagement, the Spuhlers also enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities. They love hiking, biking, boating, fishing, surfing, paddleboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling. Whether exploring Bear Lake or hitting the winter slopes, they are always embracing the outdoors. Their passion for nature runs deep, and they share this love with others.

Oso Blu was created in response to Leo’s vision. Leo, who has Autism, wanted a place where he could connect with nature and share his knowledge with others. As a result, he dreamed of raising animals and growing food, and the family worked hard to make that dream a reality. Today, Oso Blu is home to chickens, ducks, miniature donkeys, goats, and other small animals. Leo cares for them and shares what he’s learned with guests.

Growing for the future

Furthermore, the family plans to grow raspberries and blueberries on the property. These plants aren’t fully established yet, but the Spuhlers hope to add them in the coming years. This dedication to farming and sustainability is part of what makes Oso Blu special. It’s more than just a vacation rental—it’s an immersive experience that connects guests with nature and life on a small farm.
